Sodium bromate

Sodium bromate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaBrO₃. It is mainly used as an analytical reagent and oxidant, as well as a hair perm agent. It can also be mixed with sodium bromide as a gold solubilizer.

Purpose

First aid measures

Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly rinse the skin with soap and water.

Eye contact: Lift the eyelids and rinse with flowing water or physiological saline. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Quickly remove from the scene to a place with fresh air. Maintain airway patency. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately perform artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water to induce vomiting. Seek medical attention.

Firefighting measures

Harmful combustion products: hydrogen bromide, sodium oxide.

Fire extinguishing method: Spray water to cool the container, and if possible, move the container from the fire scene to an open area.

Fire extinguishing agents: Misty water, sandy soil.

Leakage emergency response

Isolate the contaminated area and restrict entry and exit. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear dust masks (full face masks) and gas protective clothing.

Minor leakage: Mix with sand, dry lime, or soda ash.

Large leakage: Cover with plastic or canvas. Then collect, recycle or transport to a waste disposal site for disposal.

Handling and storage

Operation precautions: Closed operation, local ventilation. Operators must undergo specialized training and strictly adhere to operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter dust masks, chemical safety goggles, polyethylene protective clothing, and rubber gloves. Stay away from sparks and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Stay away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid generating dust. Avoid contact with reducing agents. When handling, it is important to load and unload with care to prevent damage to the packaging and containers. Equip corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and emergency response equipment for leaks. Empty containers may have residual harmful substances.

Storage precautions: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sparks and heat sources. Packaging sealing. It should be stored separately from combustible materials, reducing agents, etc., and should not be stored together. The storage area should be equipped with appropriate materials to contain leaked materials.
