Calcium bromide is an inorganic salt with the molecular formula CaBr₂. It is a colorless oblique needle shaped crystal or crystal block, odorless, with a salty and bitter taste. Relative density 3.353 (25 ℃). Extremely soluble in water, neutral in aqueous solution, soluble in ethanol, acetone, and acid, slightly soluble in methanol and liquid ammonia, insoluble in ether or chloroform. It can form complex salts with alkali metal halides. Has strong moisture absorption. Used for oil drilling, as well as manufacturing ammonium bromide and photosensitive paper, fire extinguishing agents, refrigerants, etc. Medically used as a central nervous system suppressor, it has inhibitory and sedative effects and is used to treat symptoms such as neurasthenia and epilepsy.
Storage method
Store in a sealed container and place in a cool, dry place. The storage area must be kept away from oxidants. Stay away from moisture and moisture.
Main uses
Mainly used as offshore oil drilling and completion fluid, cementing fluid, and repair fluid.
